New uMail Questions and Tips

After your uMail account has been migrated to ExchangeOnline (EXO), you may notice a few things displaying differently than before. Here are some common things people notice.

“I don’t see all my emails” – Outlook Mail Client

The default settings with Outlook use the “Focused Inbox” which divides your email into what the client views as important and all other email. At the top of your Outlook screen (exactly where depends on your client), you can switch between the two designations.

If you decide you do not like this view, you can change it by going to “View” -> “Arrange by” -> and unchecking “Turn on Focused Mailbox”

“What is the Daily Briefing?”

Microsoft’s Cortana digital assistant service runs on your mailbox and will send you a summary email of things you have indicated you will do. If you want to turn this feature off, you can log in to cortana.office.com with your unid@umail.utah.edu account and disable the feature.

“I don’t have Passwords & Accounts” – iOS setup

The UIT instructions for setting up uMail on iOS are currently written for iOS 13.x. If you are in iOS 14.x (and it’s likely that you are), go to “Settings” > “Mail” > “Accounts” instead.
