Standard Computer User Agreement

In the College of Fine Arts' computing environment, a "Standard" user is defined as a user with standard rights on their work computer. As "Standard" users they are not able to install software, run software updates, install hardware drivers, set system preferences and perform other similar tasks on their computer; they must contact the CFA Computer Support and Information Systems group to help them with these tasks. This gives the end user a certain amount of security by ensuring that software and security updates are applied to their machines regularly and that their machines are being backed up on a regular basis as well. Standard users in the College of Fine Arts must read and agree to the following terms:

  1. The College of Fine Arts and its departments, divisions, and areas license the use of computer software from a variety of outside companies. The College and its departments, divisions, or areas do not own this software or its related documentation. Unless authorized by the software developer, the user does not have the right to reproduce any aspect of the software except for backup purposes.
  2. All users within the College of Fine Arts shall use software only in accordance with the license agreements and will not install unauthorized copies of commercial software on University owned computers.
  3. No user will install software that would allow others to obtain copyrighted material from their computer without authorization from the copyright holder. This includes "peer to peer" or file sharing software.
  4. CSIS will be provided with installation codes, serial numbers and vendor information to the College of Fine Arts Computer Support and Information Systems (CSIS) when a standard user requests the installation of software on a University owned Computer. CSIS is the designated Software License Coordinator for all computers owned by the College of Fine Arts.
  5. All Standard users are responsible for notifying CSIS if they receive messages that they are not being backed up. Standard users must leave their computers on at night to allow back-ups and system updates.
  6. No user in the College of Fine Arts may install any software that could compromise the security of the user’s machine or the University of Utah's network.
  7. All users must be familiar with the University of Utah's policy on information resources (Policy and Procedures 4-002: Information Resources Policy) as well as the College of Fine Arts’ Faculty/Staff Computer Support Policy & Procedures regarding computer and network use within the College of Fine Arts.
