Administrative Computer User Agreement

In the College of Fine Arts’ computing environment, an “Admin” user is defined as a user with administrative rights on their work computer. As “Admin” users they are able to install software, run software updates, install hardware drivers, set system preferences and perform other similar tasks on their computer. These rights demand a higher level of responsibility from the user because the pose a greater risk to the user’s work computer and the network. To be considered for Admin user access to a College of Fine Arts’ computer, the user must read and agree to the following terms and receive permission from their department chair:

  1. The College of Fine Arts and its departments, divisions, and areas license the use of computer software from a variety of outside companies. The College and its departments, divisions, or areas do not own this software or its related documentation. Unless authorized by the software developer, the user does not have the right to reproduce any aspect of the software except for backup purposes.
  2. All users within the College of Fine Arts shall use software only in accordance with the license agreements and will not install unauthorized copies of commercial software on University owned computers.
  3. No user will install software that would allow others to obtain copyrighted material from their computer without authorization from the copyright holder. This includes “peer to peer” or file sharing software.
  4. All Admin users will provide installation codes, serial numbers and vendor information to the College of Fine Arts Computer Support and Information Systems (CSIS) prior to installing software on a University owned Computer. CSIS is the designated Software License Coordinator for all computers owned by the College of Fine Arts.
  5. All Admin users are responsible for keeping their system software updated to prevent security vulnerabilities. Failure to do so could result in the revocation of administrative access to their work computer.
  6. All Admin users are responsible for keeping their virus protection software and virus definitions up-to-date. Failure to do so will result in the revocation of administrative rights on their work computer.
  7. No user in the College of Fine Arts may install any software that could compromise the security of the user’s machine or the University of Utah’s network.
  8. All users must be familiar with the University of Utah’s policy on information resources (Policy and Procedures 4-002: Information Resources Policy) as well as the College of Fine Arts’ Faculty/Staff Computer Support Policy & Procedures regarding computer and network use within the College of Fine Arts. This form is agreed to and signed by the user, the user’s Chair and the Dean of the College before a user is given administrative access to the user’s work computer.
