Security Tips

As a rule, and according to University policy, you should never share your campus credentials. While you would probably never give your uNID and campus password to anyone else directly, there is more than one way to ‘share’ credentials and some of the non-obvious methods still put you at risk.

Finding contacts on social media, e.g., Facebook, LinkedIn
If you enter your University credentials to allow another site to search your address book, you are sharing your campus credentials. See UIT Service Now KB Article on Social Networks asking for uMail login credentials for more information. This is in violation of University policy and a bad idea in general.
Allowing another user to use your work computer can put University data at risk.
When another user uses your computer account, they may be able to access server and online resources that should only be accessible to you due to stored passwords or single-sign-on. Only authorized users should be using your work-provided computer.
